To say that he believes in Starclan is an understatement. No, he doesn't just believe in Starclan, he worships them and values them more than anything in this world. He believes that Starclan is everywhere, in every movement and event, in every creature and plant. He believes that he is Starclan's agent, a perfect being as he has decided to follow the 'honourable path'. However, he believes that following this honourable path does not just involve following Starclan's code and rules, it involves preaching it. He believes that Starclan wishes for him to punish the sinful and keep the clan 'pure' ('unpure' things could be anything).
The most important thing to Volepelt is his faith, any cat who sees him knows that. Volepelt is an active follower of Starclan, he follows the rules of the clan and Starclan's words strictly, very strictly. He believes that the warrior code and traditions are the most important part of the clan and that, if are not followed exactly, he and the clan will become lazy and sinful. This is a particularly bad thing as he believes you need a completely pure heart to get into Starclan, and the 'purity of your heart' is effected by those around you. Therefore, unlike the usual avid follower, he also sees a neccessity in getting all other cats in his clan to believe and become pure. And it is a neccessity... he's completely obsessed. If one cat is full of sin, they will go on to taint others and will lessen Fogclan's perfection. Also, he believes that a true follower of Starclan keeps his clan pure, and that one who does not care about others fate is as bad as a non-believer.
Volepelt is ashamed and even nausiated by his own clan. Why? Owlstar, the sorry excuse for a leader, does not fully follow the warrior code and she allows doubts in Starclan from her own clan to go unnoticed. Fogclan, to Volepelt's mind, is full of sin and is so unpure he doesn't really want to dirty his paws in it. However, fortunately he knows the clan can be saved. The dirt can be purged, with just a little guidance from him. Volepelt, believes that he is Starclan's agent, a self elected position. He has made it his lot in life to spread it's word and to make those he cares for in Fogclan safe so they go to Starclan, and he believes Starclan favours him because of it. He has just the right skills to lead Fogclan, and he believes he will be leader some day. However, to do this he realises it is important that he acts wisely and keeps his radical ideas to himself until Starclan decides to give him the power to lead the clan.
Volepelt also has some sexist tendancies, as he was raised believing that females were lower than males. Females were taught to respect Toms, as their place was in the nursery and collecting herbs for the medicine cat. Volepelt keeps very quiet about his dislike for having female fighters at current, but that could always change...
When it comes to other clans, though Volepelt finds Pineclan and semi-believing clans disgraceful, he does not worry himself with how the other clans are run. Fogclan is the chosen clan, after all, why should he bother about purifying rivals?

Appearance |
Volepelt is a short-furred tabby. Contrary to what his name suggests, he is not a darker colour as his original name suggests. Originally he was Root (and later Change) and Vole was a name he adopted later on, mostly because of his small size. The base of his pelt is a very light dusty brown colour and his stripes are a darker dusty brown, meaning that overall he is quite bright in colour. Volepelt is neither slim nor bulky, he has alot of strength but his muscles are relatively lean. This is probably more to do with his genetics than anything enviromental. He is also smaller than adverage for a cat his age, his growth was stunted from lack of food as an apprentice. Volepelt, however, still stands tall, his feet firm upon the ground. He has defeated hardship and found his place, so he has an air of confidence. He looks strangely old and wise. Yet, though his body is literally covered with scars, most noticably on the belly, flank and ears, he has an oddly attractive, youthful quality to his body and face. Though his green eyes are hardened, they still hold a mysterious kit-like quality. Perhaps this is because his beliefs have given him the look of an innocent child, or maybe it is because he isn't as stable as he puts himself across...
Personality |
Faithful, loyal, survivor, caring, vunerable
Volepelt is a serious cat. In fact, he's so serious you could believe him to be bland and even devoid of a personality. However, really this is not the case. Well, not entirely. Volepelt was not brought up like an ordinary cat, his personality was never cherished and individuality was more something to be groaned about than applauded. It does strange things to a cat when what is unique about them means nothing, you grow up with little true identity. It never helped Volepelt to even try to have one anyway, it only brought him pain and torture, so why bother developing one? The little cat that had once tried to break free of indoctrination has been locked away for survival purposes, he has truely conformed.
So what is Volepelt? A survivor.
The young apprentice with an impressive ability to question what he was taught has gone. Once upon a time, young Root had the inner power to look at things and decide what was right and wrong for himself, even if it went against what he was told but now this has gone. Free-thought can only last so long if it is not valued. Root's upbringing could only be described as indoctrination. Starclan belief was the only way to live, there was no choice. It was conform or be miserable.
So, volepelt conformed in order to survive, at first. It was the only way. Yet, after torture and isolation, soon his doubts just left him. Volepelt's mind and soul was broken, his will to fight leaving him as he found his mind suddenly believing every word. It was like his mind was wiped free to become a piece of slate for the words and thoughts of others. It was his minds way of adapting, of freeing itself from pain. But in the end, he really did convince himself that he believed it. When your doubts leave you, you really have no choice. Soon it becomes the only way to live.
Volepelt found solace in the soul-soothing words of Starclan. Believing gave him everything; freedom from punishment, the love of a clan and a message to base his life upon. He grew to love Starclan, it gave him utter happiness. After the pain questioning them nearly destroyed him, the benefits of believing in Starclan had silenced his free thought forever. He takes comfort in his belief.
This is why it is not surprising that many cats would think that his belief in Starclan is the only thing to his being. Why? He doesn't seem to hold any characteristics which would lead to cat's believing that he has a personality. It's not hard to see why they'd assume this. He has no humour, little charm, little ability at holding a conversation about starclan. All that seems to make up his personality is his beliefs... and really that idea is pretty accurate.
Volepelt's personality and his own pain and suffering was stamped on and ignored, so it never blossomed, so instead his beliefs became him. Volepelt began to hide his pain and true self, squeezing it into a tiny dark corner of his soul, and began to make himself 'one' with his clan and Starclan beliefs. His opinions have become that of the teachings he has been taught, his actions only within the line of Starclan teachings, his tongue focused on Starclan's words. However, he doesn't see this as a bad thing. He doesn't want his own opinions anymore, he doesn't mind living within such tight rules. Following Starclan makes him happy, blissfully happy, and he truely believes that the way he is living now is the best. That is the main reason behind his motivation to keep the old ways alive and for sticking religiously to tradition and Starclan's rules. He believes Starclan can make anyone happy, which is why he preaches it so much.
Yet, there is a darker side to this obsession and another reason for his wish to live in the strictest rules possible. Although his Starclan belief gives him security, he knows that deep down he is nothing. Without his belief, he has nothing. He has no soul, no mind, no interests or real reason to live. Without Starclan, his dark, depressing upbringing and torment would return, making it impossible to live. Without Starclan, he knows he will be responsible for his brother's death and that everything he has lived is a lie. Volepelt's vunerability is hidden well, but if the right thing triggers a change in his mindset or an ability to think free from the teachings he preaches he might just implode. He cannot see a way of living without Starclan, which is why he tries to make everything how it was before, in his old clan. Though his past has harmed him (which he has forgotten), the set up and rules in it were predicatible and safe. It is why he works towards it so dedicatedly.
So, now you know Volepelt's soul and the reason for his belief. This is perhaps the most important about him and the motivations for his actions. Volepelt wishes to make Fogclan somewhat like his old clan, but that does not mean he is truely evil. He is just misguided and truely believes that his old clan setup is the only true way to live.
Now, let us take a look at what he has as an outward personality.
Volepelt, due to his belief that being idle is a sin, ensures every action he makes holds a purpose. He does not do anything which doesn't contribute to something, whether that means filling his stomach or gaining social happiness. He feels that this is a very constructive way of living, which will in the long run benefit him and the clan.
At current, Volepelt could be seen as a quiet cat by those in his clan. It is very true that he is not a talkative cat, how can you be when you have been taught to avoid unneeded conversation at all costs? But his lack of speech goes deeper than that. He has always had a lack of conversational skills purely because he didn't need them. If he wanted cats to like him in his old clan, all he had to do was be honourable and believe in Starclan. He did not need charm or wit for friendships, orders and requests were all that was required. So, living in Fogclan is quite a change, the variety in personalities scare him slightly. He does not know how to deal with jokes or flirting, for he sees little humour in things. To say he finds socialising hard is an understatement.
So, he keeps himself to himself, causes little arguement and does not openly seem to seek discussion. However, what his clanmates don't know is that his quietness stems from 2 things; that he is sickened by the state his clan is in and that revealing that fact, even slightly, would damage his social position. Right now, he is cautious as he believes that showing his distaste could mean the clan believes he has ulteriour motives. If he was in a place where he could speak easily, without worry of putting himself at risk, he'd probably speak more... but no more emotively than he already does.
Volepelt, though it may not seem like it, cares alot about all cats in Fogclan. Although this is only due to a mutual love for his chosen clan, he cares alot about what happens to each individual cat. If he were to find someone he truely valued, he'd care even more. Why? Because he does not want any other cat's souls to die like his brother, Leaf's, must have. If he can save them, he will save them. You see, even though he isn't a very empathetic or sympathetic cat, he sees himself in every other cat who struggles to find faith. If a cat is struggling to believe, he believes they must have been like him when he had doubts. If only they could learn to be good and to believe, they would be happy like he had been. His sympathy and ideals of what makes happiness are slanted, yes, but that doesn't mean he isn't sympathetic. Even though he feels that a cat must be punished into a 'pure' cat, he doesn't do it from meanness, but because he loves them. It is mostly because of those he loves everyone that he cares about purifying the clan so much.
Anyway, right now Volepelt is a very restricted individual. Though he has never been a particularly affectionate cat anyway, he is seen as cold and somewhat emotionless among other individuals. However, his loyalty and happiness are to be admired. He is very pro-clan. He does things for the clan and not himself, he is self sacrificing. It's an honourable set of traits, and there is no reason why a cat in the clan should not respect him or think him bad. He is highly skilled, after all, and no cat knows about how he plans to change Fogclan, why shouldn't they find him an amazing warrior even if they do not like him?
The only time when Volepelt is at ease is when the chance moment comes along where things are 'pure enough' for him to relax and smile, without getting irritated at whatever sins he is seeing. This is usually when he is with other 'true followers' like himself, or when he is pleased with a young apprentice's progress towards becoming one. The rest of the time he is uptight and keeps as quiet as possible. His rage, however, is bubbling just under the surface, waiting for a chance to get out.
Skills |
Volepelt is a very skilled individual. He is both superb at fighting and hunting, having worked extra hard to perfect his skills so he could become a warrior in his old clan. Unless you were near to being exceptional there, you were unlikely to get any kind of recognision... and it was recognicion and praise that he desperately wanted. He is a formidable warrior, physically, perhaps one of the strongest about. He is also fairly good at organising things. However, he lacks skill in true empathy and has little free-thought outside of what Starclan's teachings dictate. In body he is strong but in mind he is weak. He is narrowminded and stubborn, which can make him hard to get on with.
History |
Volepelt began his life as a kit with no name and no real identity. From the moment he was born, he felt lost. His mother treated him with little deliberate care and with no nurturing touch. He wasn't hated, he had always known that, he was just treated indifferently... as if his soul and his personality did not matter... as if he didn't really have one at all. He was never spoken to when it was not a neccessity and he did not venture away from the den in which he was born. He thought the world would always be that way... he and his brothers had no curiousity as they did not know there was anything more. He was ignorant and things were simple.
It was at the age of six moons that he finally got his first taste of the world. He stepped out of the den and lost his innocent ignorance for the place in which he was born. He learnt that there were other cats beside his mother... that there were things that could hurt him and draw blood. He learnt that cats had names and identities and that they were not ignored, for they spoke to eachother freely. It puzzled him. He did not understand this strange new world, he didn't understand a bit of it. His mind was pure and untouched by both good and bad, love and hurt.
It was that day he got his name. The strange golden cat with cold eyes gave it him. He felt immense pleasure as he became Root, finally understanding that he himself had a personality. He was like any other cat... but different. It was nice to feel like that. He felt honoured to finally be someone, he was pleased by the attention. He and his brothers, now named Reed and Leaf, were told by this strange cat that with their names, Root's symbolising stability, and new 'life', they would come to know and uphold the word of Starclan, the almighty rulers. Truth said that, until Root was a true follower and warrior, he would learn under the care of a mentor and would learn the clan's ways.
So it was that he began his 'life'. The first few days were easy. A cat named Loyalty showed him and his brothers about, teaching them the very basics of clan life. He learnt that he slept in the apprentice den, that he was required to follow the warrior code, and that Starclan was an invisible entity which ruled over all. He was also told that the golden cat was called 'Truth', and it was he that had been chosen to be Starclan's mouthpiece. Truth's words and teachings were the things they should never disobey.
Root's life was still a lonely one. He was told he could only speak when spoken to, and that he was the lowest of the low. His brothers never really spoke to him, the rest of the clan would completely ignore him unless they needed to speak to him. Though Root did not know why, he yearned for the cats to speak to him properly, as the Warriors would do when they spoke to one another. He wanted to be able to speak like them, to feel the 'nice' tone directed at him... but he had no clue how to get it.
After the first few days, he was paired up with an older black tom named Honour, and told this cat was going to be his 'mentor'. This mentor, he was told, was going to teach him how to fight, hunt and, most importantly, be an ideal follower. Root was eager to learn, somehow putting together that these could be the skills he needed to get the 'nice' tone. His first day of training had consisted of hunting and the teaching of 'purity'. He was told that if he ever did anything wrong, he would become unpure and that Starclan would hate him and he would never join them. He learnt of how hard the task to being perfect was going to be and, for the first time, felt a fear of doing anything wrong.
That day, he had come back to camp with the first piece of fresh-kill he had ever caught in his mouth. A she-cat called Bliss had seen him and she had bounded over immediately to congratulate him. She spoke of how great he was and how proud Starclan would be that he caught such a fantastic piece of sustinence for his clan. Root had glowed with pride, a warm feeling bubbling inside of him. He liked her praise... he wanted more. He wanted to feel like this forever.
So it was that Root began to work hard to become a perfect follower. He honed his skills in fighting and hunting, slowly learning the ways of the clan. He became better and better every day, feeding off of the praise of the cats in the clan. He was now reowned for being a fantastic follower and he frequently gained praise from all cats for being so vigilant in his studies. His memory had proven to be very good and, though he didn't really find them completely convincing, he could rattle off teachings at a seconds notice. He was flying and feeling happy for the first time in his life.
In fact, Root was blissfully and innocently happy until 2 moons into his training. Until then, his life had seemed perfect, difficult but worth it, however, one day things suddenly took a sinister turn.
As an apprentice, you are the lowest of the low. A kit is higher than you, he was told, as the 6 moons you spend in your life are the purest any cat will ever have. Kits are kept alone, inside and have a military-style upbringing so they can have the best start in life, without influence or risk of being tainted. This process means they are more willing to learn when they finally gain freedom and, more importantly, they know what perfect purity feels like so they know what to aim for. However, by the time you are an apprentice, you have gained an awareness of life and pain that makes your childish innocence fade. Unlike warriors, you know little of the light and Starclan so are the most unpure beings in the clan. For that reason, it is the apprentices who must eat last and who have the worst jobs in the clan. The purer you are, the more 'rights' you gain, which is why you gain more freedom of speech as you get higher in rank. It is also for this reason that the leader, the purest, eats first, the deputy second, medicine cat third, male warriors, female warriors and then the apprentices. If there is no fresh-kill left by then, the apprentices go hungry as that is Starclan's will and it will purge their soul of sin.
However, one moon, there was a rather unfortunate lack of fresh-kill. The apprentices, made up of four cats, had gone hungry for 3 entire days but were still expected to do their duties and learn as much as usual. However, the hunger became too much for poor Root and his brother Leaf. They hastily planned to sneak out at night to hunt some fresh-kill for themselves. Though they knew this was against the warrior code they believed Starclan would have mercy upon them and allow them to feed themselves.
The plan they made was almost perfectly executed. They both caught prey for themselves and gulped them down without chewing and cleaned their pelts before heading back to camp. However, when they reached the clan entrance, Honour and Humble, Leaf's mentor, were waiting for them. As soon as they saw the apprentices they leapt upon them. The mentors both, simultaneously, scraped a claw down their apprentice's belly and bit a nick in their left ear. They both then got off them, telling them forcefully to get up. The apprentices were informed that they had both broke the warrior code and sinned, but they should not worry. The mentors had gotten rid of those sins by punishing them, and those wounds (whose pain they were not allowed to ease with herbs) would cleanse them of their sins and remind them never to do it again.
Root and Leaf left them with their tails between their legs. Leaf had burst into tears, suddenly guilty about their idiotic plan and crying over his sins. Root, however, had had a very different reaction; rage. He had looked at the stars and asked them how such 'justice' could be just in their eyes. Why didn't they do something? Why was such torture allowed?
That second, Root gained the ability of free thought.
Unfortunately, the clan had heard about his deeds by the time he woke up the next day. All the cats he had worked so hard to become friends with shunned him immediately for his already-purged sin. He felt like a virus in his own clan. His pure reputation was completely ruined, he was once again the lowest of the low. This made him distraught, loneliness and sadness hit him hard. It seemed this was unrecoverable... his sins had not been purged as Honour said, they were still hurting him. The clan was punishing him again and again.
However, more horrible still, in the next few days Leaf's belly wound became infected. He was hit with a fever and he became horrendously ill. However, as it was a sin-wound, he was not allowed any medical help. Root despaired, of course, pleading with Truth to let him see the medicine cat. However, Truth told him that this illness was Starclan's will. Him and his brother had made Starclan angry and Starclan was inflicting their own pain on Leaf to purge his unclean soul. They were not to intervene.
Leaf died a few days later. Root knew then that he had really paid for his sin... he had been hurt to his very core. Starclan had dealt the ultimate punishment, and that punishment would torment his soul for the rest of his life.
Root felt isolated and 'cold'. If he had known what unhappiness was, he would have deemed himself depressed. Root felt things he did not understand... the clan in which he lived had no patience for emotions for they make your judgements more likely to be skewed and less likely to come from Starclan. But, nothing could prepare Vole for the shear amount of coldness (or grief to any cat who knows the names for emotions) he felt, and the horrifying lack of grief in the rest of the clan. The clan did not pause for a moment to sob for their lost apprentice. No, not a moment, there was not even a virgil for the lost cat. If Root hadn't known of the death himself, it would be hard to gather that the clan even knew there had been one at all. Yet, they all knew, he heard them speak of Leaf's death as coldly as they would for a piece of prey. It caused his pain to grow tenfold.
One day, having been driven mad by sadness and anger, Root asked Honour why there was no sadness for his brother's death. Honour narrowed his eyes at him, scolding him for asking such a stupid question and for feeling excessive emotion. He spoke bluntly and harshly to Root, telling him that Starclan had decided Leaf was so full of sin, he did not deserve to walk upon this earth any longer. Leaf's death was their will, therefore it was not the clan's place to mourn. In fact, Honour informed him, they should be happy, as Starclan had either welcomed him into their clan (his debt repaid in dying) or had cleansed the clan of dirt. After all, why mourn for a cat when they've gone somewhere happier, or are so dirty they are ruining life for the rest of them?
Root had just nodded to his mentor, feeling his sadness beginning to fade. Honour was right, after all. He still missed Leaf, but who was he to challenge Starclan's will? But then he found his anger resurfacing again. Leaf had always been a good cat, eager to do the right thing and following Starclan as best he could. How could Honour suggest that he was full of sin? If anything, he himself should have been the one to die, it was him who tempted Leaf to hunt and it was him who had doubts in Starclan's justice. Why hadn't Starclan taken him?
So it was that Root, working himself into a frenzy, began to work against his own clan in his own subtle way. He began to feel that he was, in fact, the guilty one and he acted accordingly. Yet, he also felt that his clan was unfair and he began to rebel in actions and in spirit.
Those next few moons were ones of turmoil in Root's life. In fact, they were so bad that he tries to forget those dark days as much as possible. Root had rebelled in any way he could... whether it was by disobeying the warrior code or questioning Starclan's teachings. Honour would end up punishing him every day, putting upon him some physical affliction to combat his sins. Honour became harsh and completely unrelenting, even punishing him for simple things such as 'figeting' or 'breathing too loudly', making up some excuse for why it was a move against the clan or Starclan or him. Root's body was soon littered with bruises and wounds, he was almost always bleeding from somewhere.
Soon his physical wounds did not seem to hurt anymore, even when first afflicted, as if his body had adapted to the pain. Yet, it was the isolation that caused him the most pain, his clan's constant persecution nearly killed him. Honour had spread the word within the clan that Root was now possessed and completely evil and the clan treated him hostilely because of it. He was insulted and attacked physically if he put one foot out of line, he was glared at and whispered about all day. No one cared for him or about him, he was truely alone.
Root continued upon his collision course for some moons, almost killing himself in the process. He was always physically hurt, his clan hated him and even his brother Reed no longer spoke to him. Yet, one afternoon, after a particularly harsh beating, Root finally realised what was wrong. He was wrong. Really, it was him who was corrupt and not the clan. After all, it was not the clan's fault that he made them punish him. He was making himself evil by rebelling. Honour had told him what the answers were to his questions, that he would become good again if he just stopped doubting Starclan's will regarding Leaf and stopped rebelling, why wasn't he following them? He realised then that he had brought this upon himself. It was him who was unworthy and unjust, not the clan. He was the problem.
Root, upon having this revelation, had found himself becoming blissfully happy. He knew what he was doing wrong, he could change it. He could be happy again. He was so excited by his realisation that he had rushed to see Honour and had told him what he had realised, wide eyed and innocent. Honour had been shocked by the change, smiling at him warmly for the first time in moons. He was told Starclan had blessed him with the truth and that Honour was proud of him.
Root glowed with pride. He began to act like he had before his rebellious period, becoming studious and questioning nothing. He finally saw the beauty in Starclan's words. They loved him and would always be there for him. They felt real now and believing in them brought him happiness. He doubted them no longer and he took Honour's occational punishments readily, knowing they would clear his soul. He wanted to be pure.
The clan became impressed with him for the second time, welcoming back into their midst. Soon he had friends again and he was blissfully happy. He knew now that he had been blind. He had been meant to go hungry that night, that was how he was supposed to learn about the trials life would bring. Leaf had meant to die, he had been full of sin and deserved it. He was glad that Starclan had shown him the way.
A moon or so later, Truth rewarded him with his warrior name, Change. It signified all cat's ability to change into a perfect follower, no matter how deeply sinful they were. Change was beyond proud. He vowed to himself to help anyone as misguided as he had been as, if he could teach them as Honour had done him, they would find this bliss too.
Change lived peacefully and happily as a warrior for 10 moons, having kits by any queen he wished. His clan believed that females were inferior to males and that their task was to carry kits or find herbs for the medicine cat. So, Change having many kits by many queens was not unusual, it was expected. Change also mentored his first apprentice, who was as rebellious as he had been. He punished Mouse as harshly as he had been, feeling nothing for his pleas that he did not deserve it. Soon Mouse became an ideal follower, and Change became even more certain that this way of life was Starclan's will.
It was around the time that Mouse became Learnt that a cat named Fox from the clan began to rally followers. Fox was a young cat, barely more than 8 moons, who preached that the clan was unjust and that this way of life was not Starclan's will. Fox gained many younger followers quickly, converting half the clan in less than a moon. Change knew, of course, that really these cats were just lost and unwise in the ways of Starclan, so he pitied them. He did, however, believe that they would calm down of their own accord. Yet, as the older wiser cats punished these rebels in the traditional way they had, paying little thought to the, the clan began to split apart from it's very roots.
One day all the true followers awoke to find that Truth had been murdered by the rebels and that the clan was literally dying before their eyes. The followers desperately tried to keep it together but no cat seemed able to lead the clan as effectively as Truth had. In the meantime, the amount of true followers left had been whittled down to but a handful of cats, most of the clan turning to the young Mouse for leadership. Mouse's leadership was quieter and gave more freedom to cats, physical punishments being banned and less strict rules replacing old traditions. The true followers were sickened by the cushy leadership and eventually just left the clan.
Some of the true followers joined together to form search parties for other clans, but Change decided that he would rather go on alone. He wanted to find a clan with the same purity his last one had had, not to start a new clan as the others wished.
So it was that he changed his name to Vole to avoid questions, travelling far and wide as a loner to find a new clan. It was Fogclan he found. As soon as he saw Owlstar, he admired her (as a female, she was pretty good for a leader) and he vowed to help make Fogclan as pure and safe as his last clan.
Vole became Volepelt and he quickly settled back into the warriors lifestyle. However, as time went on, he realised that Fogclan was not as pure as he had first suspected. He became dissatisfied with the clan and contemplated leaving.
However, Starclan answered his prayers and changed his plans when they crossed his path with Mistpelt. Mistpelt and Volepelt shared an instant connection as they were both dissatisfied with Owlstar's leadership and yearned for a pure clan. Mistpelt confided in him that she was chosen by Starclan to alter this by taking over Fogclan and turning it into the devout clan it should be. They instantly became allies and Volepelt helped her plan become a reality.
Volepelt aided Mistpelt in her rally against Owlstar, lending his voice to the argument that banished the former leader from the clan. Therefore, as one of her main followers, it was somewhat inevitable that Volepelt became one of Mistpelt's most highly respected council members and, eventually, her deputy.
Now, he and Mistpelt both plan for the future of Fogclan, strategically aiming to rid the taint from the clan and make it the most fearsome in the forest.
