His name? She should know HIS name! He was Firepaw, after all, and he did tend to make small commontions at the gatherings-- yeah, they were small, but they sent murmurs throughout the clans, right? Plus, he was Rowanheart's boy and everyone should know that. Even his fur, ginger and thick and beautiful, should have tipped the Pineclan-- should have tipped Sootstorm off. It was a pelt to be proud of, and frankly, Firepaw wouldn't be surprised if the she-cat was secretly admiring it right now.
What was he going to say again?
Oh right, his name. He puffed out his chest a little, his confidence retrieved now that he had a chance to talk about himself. He opened his jaw to go on a rant about how he was the eldest son of Rowanheart, noble warrior of Fogclan, and better yet, of STARCLAN, when Finchpaw happened to pop into his head again. Oh, foxdung, why did Firepaw have to get a conscience now? That had hardly ever happened before!
"She'll leave you in the middle of nowhere if you upset her or annoy her."
With a roll of his eyes, Firepaw let his fur lie flat again. "Firepaw. It's Firepaw." It was simple and his voice was flat, as all the fun had been sucked out of him yet again. He rebelled anyway though, sticking in a last note: "My dad's Rowanheart and my brother is a medicine cat apprentice." Firepaw was a bragger. He really couldn't help it.
"Oh yeah, and I'm NOT a kid!"

"Ah. Don't you just love having family?" Sootstorm purred, her voice had become sweet and dripping, at the thought of her family. "A medicine cat apprentice, huh? You must know a lot 'bout those flying star-cats then, Firepaw." the grey tabby meowed dryly, some mention of StarClan didn't bother her. But some Medicine Cats who went crazy over StarClan bothered her. Who cared about those fake flying cats in the stars? Sootstorm nodded, looking at the pride on his face. It's always a good thing to see a cat with pride, but as long as he wasn't...too proud. She could tolerate him. Letting out a slight chuckle at Firepaw's whole "I'm NOT a kid!" sentence, Sootstorm shook her head. "Any cat that's an apprentice is a kid to me, unless you prefer being called tyke." she teased, tail flicking at his ear again. Just her way of being friendly and conversing with a cat, while still being able to tease him. After all, she was a tease with younger cats.

She had rubbed his fur in more ways than one with all her comments this time. Yeah, before she was annoying, but now Firepaw felt himself repulsed by her-- he was taught that way, after all. The instant she played off Starclan as "a bunch of flying star-cats" he recoiled from her, a reaction that had been instilled in him since he was just a moon old. Even though Firepaw sensed and recognized the friendly tone of his voice, he couldn't ignore the words she said.
Starclan was real and she had insulted them! Yeah, Pineclan cats were exactly like Rowanheart said-- cruel and stupid and ignorant.
"Yeah I know a lot about those flying star cats!" He snarled, his claws ripping at the ground suddenly. "For one I know they're real! And I know that they can do all that they say they can do! They can appear in dreams and send signs and everything! They made the clouds cover the moon at the gathering the other night, right? I even know what they look like! So I don't understand why you Pineclan cats go around claiming they don't exist!"
He didn't know what else to say. That was his real big question after all: Why not? Why wouldn't they believe, why couldn't they believe, and why were they so blasted stubborn about it? It only got them sent to the Dark Forest.

"I never said they don't exsist, dear." Sootstorm meowed lightly, eyes narrowing at the apprentice's tone of voice. "I don't get dreams from the dead. I have...different dreams running through my head," she growled. "Even if they could come in dreams, why can't they come into mine, hm? My dreams are more powerful in my mind then what ever they could say to me." Sootstorm muttered, hackles raising in hostility and alarm. She shouldn't have to defend herself to a FogClanner. Let alone a puny little apprentice. "I don't go around saying anything about the dead. I have respect for the dead, enough so I don't trash-talk them, kid." Sootstorm growled, nose wrinkling slightly. "You don't understand close to half of what goes on in PineClan, so don't even start." she spat. Sootstorm was tempted to leave the tomcat right there in the middle of FogClan's forest. The tabby's tail lashed like a bull-whip a few times, frustrated before allowing it to curl around her right back leg once again. Trying to calm herself.

Oh, that was not the way to handle Firepaw. Yelling back at him? Calling him a kid, STILL? It always rubbed his fur the wrong way, to be told what to do and Sootstorm was doing that now, telling not to "start." Hah, he had already started! And he wasn't finished either! Firepaw had loads more to say, and though he would only be regurgitating what his father had fed him, he didn't care. It never bothered him that Firepaw had never formed an opinion of his own... in fact, he himself didn't know that he was just reciting what he was so used to hearing.
"Don't tell me what I don't under--" Firepaw had started to launch into another long, rambling rant when he came to an abrupt stop. It occured to him that, if this kept going on, he'd be left alone, like Finchpaw had said he would. Not only that, but Sootstorm was WAY too defensive. He would just upset her more and then she'd upset him and then they'd upset each other...
He bit his tongue as hard as he could, though the words tried to wiggle out so they could bite Sootstorm as hard as they could. Urgh. How does Finchpaw do this? It's so hard not speaking my darn mind!
He heard a ghost of a chuckle and then shook his head before going on. "Okay whatever. Let's face it, we're just going to argue. I'm right, you're wrong, let's just agree to the obvious."
He just couldn't stop that mouth!
