i dont really think there's any good reason for cutting. e.e i dunno, it just flips me out. :/
and i mean, you're all worried about her cutting, but now you're saying "oh, it's ok"? MAKE UP YOUR MIND, MANNNN.

Cutting can flip people out, but it can also really help the person doing, in a strange way. Think of the stereotype of someone getting worked up and stressed out, then somebody slaps them to get them to snap out of it. Cutting can be like that. The person doing it has overwhelming emotions, and cutting is a way of venting and managing them. Forcing a self-harmer to stop can lead to more drastic things, such as suicide. (Despite common misconception, cutters are usually not suicidal.)
Check for other kinds of self-harm, such as throwing up food, burning, scratching. And if you can, convince her to see a psychologist. Never dismiss self-harm as silly. Even if someone appears to be doing it to get attention, it takes a lot to overcome the instinct not to harm oneself.
And, uh, sorry about the lecture/rant, but I have a lot of friends who self harm. I'm like a depressed person magnet! (Wait...) But yes. It's something to be taken seriously and all that :/
