I'm sorry to be such a phail member of this board-all I do is ask questions, but I can't answer any until I get my daemon.
I'm sure I've asked this before, but is it okay to try to force conversations with your daemon at first in order to try to see if some of the answers are your daemon?
edit: Really, my problem is that I have heard both to listen to your inner voice and get in tune with it and to just start talking to yourself and tune in to your inner dialogue (which may be best for me, because my thoughts are very verbal, and very lacking in inner voices)
I think I'm kinda just talking to myself all the time, though...
Oh, and also, do you have to sort of channel your daemon's answers or comments, or do they just sound off in your head or something?

ANNNDDD...can I try to project my daemon if I'm not even sure I've spoken to it yet?

Okay, since I posted last way too much has changed to warrant an edit.
I've established total and complete contact with Lyrca
And actually have been talking to her the whole time I've been trying to, I just seem to have an already-existing bond with my subconscious that makes this harder.
She isn't all that different from me, she is rather mean some of the time, and is really adamant that everyone be open-minded...and I'm still getting to know her.
Oh, and she doesn't shut-up. Well, usually I have to start a conversation with her to get her to talk (she disagrees, she says I'm just not paying attention the rest of the time), but she is definitely talkative, either way.
I haven't had any luck with projecting, tough. I'm not entirely sure if I'm getting the aim right. I mean, I can imagine an animal walking around the room...but that doesn't seem like projecting (I mean I'm literally like "let's say she is sitting here! Yay she is here! Look!!.....okay there's nothing there. At all. I don't even feel like somethings there. Dang D:")

Projecting is easier at first if you do it from the corner of your eye. Staring right at a projection of your daemon is very hard uless you have practice. And projecting is just imagining them there with you.

But people say they notice colors and different markings. How is one supposed to do that?

You do. Xarne is most often a large, long-haired grey or brown tabby. It's really quite easy. You need to relax and just imagine the animal next to you. Stop going into all the little details.
