ooc// If I remember correctly, Rolo gave me permission to godmode/powerplay No-ears a lil' so I'ma gonna do that. However, if I cross a line, tell me and I'll change it. Also I apologize for taking so long on this post.
Sableheart smiled at the end of Rain's speech. She knew, right away, that this cat was telling the truth. Every word he had just said was from his heart, and the sincerity in his words made up Sableheart's mind for her. How could she turn this cat away? Rain was the very heart of what made Pineclan special. Since Pineclan was mostly a clan full of loners and rogues-- herself included-- the majority of the clan knew how it felt to wander without a destination. To know a life without a home, or a family. Pineclan had provided all those lost, lonely cats with that home and Sableheart could barely remember her old life now that she was so blissfully happy. Rain was just another wandering soul, looking for a purpose in his life. It would be cruel to refuse him, just because of a stubborn leader.
Her smile grew wider, lighting up her green eyes. She had to stick her claws in the soil to anchor herself, in order to avoid rushing forward and embracing the newest member of her family. And what a member he was! Strong and humble and ready to be put to work, no doubt!
"Thank you for sharing that with us, Rain," Sableheart said, dipping her head toward Rain. "You remind us of our own humble roots. I have absolutely no problem with you joining our family and neither do my fellow elders, by the looks of it. No-ears?"
She turned to the oldest elder and he nodded, confirming Rain's fate-- well, sort of. The elders were agreed. But Gingerstar still needed to be called in and informed, so there was that rock in the road.
She walked toward the exit of the den so she could fetch Gingerstar. As she passed Rain, she felt the need to comfort him... no doubt the presence of the leader would unnerve the loner.
"We'll just need to inform Gingerstar of our decision and then you'll be all set, dear. And don't you worry about her... her bark is worse than her bite," she whispered. And with that, she stepped out of the den and called the leader forth, quickly-- and as gently as possible-- informing the ginger she-cat of what the elder's decided.
Gingerstar
Gingerstar wasn't surprised.
She had dreaded this instant, the news coming from Sableheart's mouth, the moment Rain had been dragged into her camp. At least she had known it was coming though, and had slightly prepared herself for it. She wasn't going to freak out. She wasn't going to throw a fit (which she, admittedly, tended to do). She was going to keep a calm head about this, like an ideal, Pineclan leader would...because that was who she was, after all. The calm-headed, ideal Pineclan leader. Ahem.
However, when she walked into the den, the sight of Rain boiled her blood and the claws came out. A hiss slithered up her throat and Gingerstar barely blocked it with her tongue. She didn't know why Rain made her feel like this-- so angry all the time, so...weak-- but she would not allow it. This was still Pineclan, was it not? And she was still Pineclan leader, so her elders could make their decision, but she would have a little bit of control over this situation, this tom that so stubbornly refused to leave.
Wait-- that was it! All she had to do was suffocate him before he suffocated her! She was known for her strictness, her pursuit of perfection-- she would quickly prove to be too difficult for poor little Rain to handle. She could drive him out of the clan without putting up a physical fight. She would do it quietly and subtly and no one would blame her when Rain eventually turned tail and ran.
Gingerstar's body grew with confidence and she strode closer to Rain, indulging in a smile. She stopped a taillength from him and turned to the elders, her request on the tip of her tongue.
"Sableheart told me of your decision, and I respect it. Rain will become part of Pineclan. But, in all fairness, I think he should earn it," Gingerstar said, sending an almost playful glance Rain's way. "He should train in our ways. Start off an apprentice, have the duties of one, be treated like one. Work his way up to deserving a warrior name. And if he can do that, he will be fully and completely welcomed into Pineclan."
She paused to assess the elder's reactions. They seems positive, with No-ears, her head, nodding his agreement. When she got the official murmur of approval, she went on.
"Thank you, elders. His training should start right away, so a ceremony won't be necessary-- Oh, and I forgot to mention--" Gingerstar grinned "-- I will be his mentor."
Hopefully Rain would receive her message. Pineclan was hers-- and she would do whatever it took to chase him away from her home.
