OOC: Okay, Puddy, here's the thread I'd said I'd make, sorry it took so long. All you really need to do is post once here with Ginger, because all they'll be doing is dropping off their prey and leaving again. :3
BIC: Back at camp. Not for long, though. Just a drop off and they were out again. Just as well, he supposed. It was already past sunhigh and he wanted to show her at least part of the territory.
His paws thudded on a squishy patch of ground as he padded to the fresh-kill pile.
It felt good to unclench his jaw from that now-soggy thing.Oh well, it was food, disgusting looking or not. He preferred fish, though.
Speaking of fish...besides the borders, he'd figured the most important thing to show his apprentice was the river. It was the source of much of their prey, after all. Though how to fish was something he'd teach her another day. Ha, like any would ever come in range of her, the way she bounced around.
Where was she, anyway? "Gingerpaw!" He called with some irritation, just to make sure she was coming.

ooc: I am so sorry that i couldn't get to you. I will from now on. Gingerpaw jumped back in surprise and thought, Is it actually possible to make him calm down? She stalked up to Redtail, and with her mind made up, she meowed out loud, "Okay, okay. Can't you wait? I'm an apprentice. It is okay for me to be a little impatient, but, you're a mentor! This is the first day, and you can't put up with me!" Knowing that she did something very bad, she stood up and glared at her mentor's eyes. Her ginger fur stood up to an end, wondering what Redtail would say. Would he give up and be nice to her? Would he be really angry and frustrate her even more? Gingerpaw was scared, and she didn't really want to know either, but the cut of water was already spilled. She had to face her destiny. Then she snapped back to reality. This was one day. It was not such a big deal, but Gingerpaw was thinking as if the words she said were so harmful that she would have to be lead into exile. Gingerpaw calmed down, but still a look of anxiety was planted in Gingerpaw's eyes. What would happen. So far, knowing Redtail, Gingerpaw knew that she was in big trouble. Yet she did not regret this. She stood up for her rights, and she was supposed to be proud of that. Her mother taught her to stand up for her opinions. To be strong. That was what Gingerpaw was doing right now, and she had no doubt that her mother would now love her even more.

Oh, no. Oh, no no no no no no no.
You did not mess with Redtail like that.
You could insult him. You could attack him. You could jeer and spit and do any number of inconsequential things to piss him off, and he'd just roll his eyes and take it.
But you did not disrespect him. Especially when you were an apprentice. Especially when you were HIS apprentice. Who he hadn't asked for in the first place.
And of course, it was now that his empathy chose to give him a lovely detailed inside tour of her simple mind. Irritation, impatience, rebelliousness, fear, nervousness. Predictable stuff. He could deal with it easily. If he could not teach her respect through obedience, he would teach her respect through fear.
His cold amber eyes were like bright, hard stones as he bent down, coming face to face with the much smaller feline, pulling back his lips ever so slightly to show his prominent fangs, the bright fur on his back fluffing out in agitation. He spoke in a quiet, but very threatening voice.
"I am going to tell you something, Gingerpaw, and we'll see if you can drive it into your small brain. I am your mentor. You and I may hate this fact all we like, but there's nothing we can do to change it. You may despise me, you may think whatever you like of me-"Here he waved his paw carelessly. "-but that will stay the same. And you know what that means? It means that I am responsible for you. Everything you do is accounted to me. And I swear to you that if you EVER-" Here the large warrior growled at the young she-cat. "-say anything like that ever again to me or any other warrior, you will be punished beyond your wildest nightmares."
He paused, waiting a few moments for it to sink in.
Then he said in a normal voice, "And we really need to get going if we're going to see all the territory." Saying thus, he padded back to the camp entrance and waited for her to drop her mouse on the fresh-kill pile so they could leave.

At first, Gingerpaw drew back in startle. Then, her anger was about to explode from the top of her head. She wanted to screech. She wanted to claw. She wanted to....... Gingerpaw calmed down and shook her head. She had to come out of this violent thought. The ginger cat knew that she was no match for this big cat, especially because they had a huge rank difference. Redtail was trusted to mentor her. Stubborn, hyper, her. Why did I do that? regretted Gingerpaw. She stalked up to Redtail and stammered, "Y-yes, Redtail." Then before she reached just past Redtail, she quietly added, "I'm s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-sorry." Gingerpaw stammered alot, especially because she never had to apologize to anybody other than her mother. "I'll try to be as calm as possible." Now Gingerpaw wanted to quit being an apprentice. When she was a kit, the only thing that she wanted was being an apprentice. Now that she finally stepped in the life of an apprentice, Gingerpaw's wish was either to go back down into her mother's den, or to hurry up and become a warrior. Although she did want to quit, she knew very well that there was no way out. She knew that so many moons were left to go, but she knew that lots of excitement would follow. This ginger tabby was known for never giving up, and she was going to prove this to Redtail. "Well, what are we waiting for, let's go!" she meowed as she dropped her kill.

Incredulous, he simply stared at her before rolling his eyes and padding quickly out of camp. No, really? He'd concluded that either he'd finally found a cat he didn't understand on at least some level, or she was crazy. Or maybe he was crazy. Both were equally possible, it seemed.
Snarl, he mentally whispered. I wish you were here. You pain, you love of my life, you brother of mine. Snarl would know what to do with this insane little ball of fur. Snarl would know how to cheer him up. How to help him be kind again like he used to be able to. Now...he couldn't. He just couldn't. Life was simply too unfair, too unforgiving. But maybe...a thought struck him. Maybe life wouldn't allow him to be kind until it had forgiven it. Then his heart hardened. That was stupid. Forgive the world for what it had done to him? As if. Nothing was his fault, he had been ripped from his simple life and thrown into this cold, harsh existence alone. He would never forgive.
He sure couldn't imagine forgiving Gingerpaw.
Besides, how could he forgive when there was evil in everything? Only fools forgave that which could still hurt them - it made them let down their guard.
At least she was sorry. Not that it meant much, but at least it showed she had some inkling of what she'd done. Frankly, he didn't care if she insulted him. But he could not have it happen in front of others - he could never take such embarrassment or the showing of something so private. Privacy was his only love left.
So, whiskers twitching in the slight breeze, the warrior lead the way to the MeadowClan border.
OOC: Sorry it took so long to reply. D: And they're out of camp now, so could you start the thread with the two of them in the StreamClan border board?
