Beliefs •
Marauder is quite unlike his brother; not only is he strongly opposed to the thought of StarClan, but he hates anyone who believes in them. He is a cat version of an atheist, except his lack of belief is practically astounding. He doesn't believe because for one, he doesn't see the point. He also detested his father ( see history ) and wanted to rebel against him as much as he could; part of him also made him start believing that StarClan was what made his father treat him the way he did, hence him disliking others.
Appearance •
Dark slits rarely widen, taking in everything no matter the darkness. Thinner than a mouse's tail and less than half the length, the pupil can scold without word or simple expression. The thinner they are the more intimidating they seem. They hold the power to stare any cat down, competitively strong. Dark, beautiful forest green irises, playful when wanted but harsh when required. Laughing emotions, hissing out orders silently and quickly. Dangerous to challenge, remorseful to disapprove.
Confidently sure expressions, never faltering. White teeth refuse to stain from past battles, and the same with his black claws. Faded black and gray, with one or two white hairs cover his ears protectively. Black splashes upon his face, with one white streak on the back of his left ear. Coat of jet and pads of white, sleek enough not to catch dirt or grass between his claws or fur. Strong black nose rarely wrinkles in disgust with his strong stomach.
Mocking pink tongue keeps active within his mouth, no matter what he’s doing; talking, cleaning his teeth, or eating. Pelt always kept neat and clean, without caring for the weather. Few times does a sneeze escape and onto his pelt, with his flexible and quick movements to whip his neck almost all the way around with the white patch in the center whirling halfway with it. Soft fur, especially on the peppery outside and inner white of the spot on his chest, covers entire body of the lean cat.
Personality •
rebellious, defensive, and egotistical. Ever since he was a young kit, Mar was the one to break the rules. He was rarely afraid of consequences and didn't mind being in trouble anyway; it never stopped him from rebelling. He is also defensive, not liking to have his point of view be challenged or his history explained in the open. Mar is rather egotistical, on his good days -- strutting around like he owns the entire planet, unafraid of challenge, always full of adrenaline and ready to win anything that comes rushing at him. Beneath all this arrogance is a softer side that he'll likely never see.
angry and irritated. Mar is usually a constant ball of anger. Anything that he doesn't entirely approve of annoys him, getting on his nerves and often sending him into a screechy fit. In his life especially, this was always hard for both him and his parents. Although he was unafraid of consequences, it didn't mean that he was happy to have them. He is also somewhat upset at how things ended between him and Polter, even more annoyed by the fact that he lost the scuffle. Anything that reminds him of that draws blood to his head and angers him pretty much instantly. Marauder is easily irritated, and even moreso when he is physically warm.
aggressive and headstrong. Mar is never afraid to pick a fight and, whenever one occurs, he usually acts as the aggressor and, in some cases, wins. Considering how he isn't that large or, unfortunately, muscular, he has certain drawbacks that he can't really fix that may prove fatal because he is always itching to get blood on his claws. He also follows the philosophy that rules were made to be broken, and he finds that he should be the one breaking them before anyone else is lucky enough to get the chance.
withdrawn and quiet. Whenever adrenaline isn't coursing through his veins, which isn't all that infrequent, he loses his angry touch and often fades into the background. He is often a bit withdrawn, even in his worse moods, and likes to be alone and taking care of himself. He generally isn't all that loud anyway, unless he's in the middle of a fight and feels the need to screech and yowl and be as loud as he can be to vent and to anger the other cat. Most of the time, he is quiet, but obviously there. Others, he could be entirely unnoticeable.
Skills •
Marauder was, in his mind, born to fight. It's the one thing that he is truly talented at; he can invent random, unheard of battle moves in an instant if he needs to and is just a skilled fighter in general. His somewhat small size rarely impairs him, as it means that there's less of him to drag around so he can move faster than the larger cats can. He is stealthy and quiet when he needs to be in order to either save his life, save his sister's life, or sneak up on a cat to attack them.
Unfortunately, Marauder only knows how to be quiet when he has to fight. He's too impatient to wait for the prey to come within reach, and he is just clumsy at the hunting anyway. Where Masq is skilled at hunting, he's a complete failure with it. Mar is lucky that he isn't always in the mood to kill; in his more . . . relaxed states, he's able to hunt and keep himself alive.
History •
Marauder was the second born. He loved his mother, his sister, his brother, his father; the three kits got along like the best of friends, always playing together and sticking by each others' sides. Mar loved it. He and Polter gained a rather strong relationship, then one night Beirut took the two toms out on a walk. It seemed normal to Mar; they'd gone out seven times before and it was helping him gain a sense of curiosity. Marauder began to wander away from the group, noticing a small bird and crouching eagerly to try to catch it. It was a ridiculous dream, considering how he was only about two and a half moons old and was still rather small. Beirut and Polter disappeared, as did the bird. Marauder was left alone, quite a ways from home, and had no idea how to get back. It was dark, cold, and Mar was terrified.
He waited there until sunrise, at which point he started trying to find his way home. It took until nearly sunset for him to cross Beirut's old trail -- it hadn't occurred to him to look for it before -- and he started to follow it until he finally got back at around moonhigh, since he kept losing it. Syria was obviously stressed when he got back, as were his siblings; Beirut glared at him before stalking off. It was from his father's hostility and obvious hatred for his son over the next several moons that he changed from the happy, loving brother to the cold, angry enemy. Marauder also began to hate his brother, since he, too, didn't go and search for him to try and bring him home. Although Mar wasn't entirely sure what compelled Beirut to leave him, he had a feeling it had something to do with favouritism.
Although Marauder had been accepting of the beliefs of StarClan before, his father's cruelty during that one night as a kit -- any sane father would have gone out to look for their kit -- led him to hate his father and thus, everything that he had ever taught him -- including the beliefs of StarClan. He distanced himself from his family, not even listening to Beirut during the preaches he gave. When Syria gave up on letting the kits learn the ways of StarClan, she brought only Polter and Masq to her little meeting because she already knew of Marauder's hatred of the warrior ancestors.
A couple moons later, Syria completely snapped and told Polter to tell Beirut that she didn't believe -- she didn't care anymore. He did and that resulted in a physical fight. When Marauder saw that Syria was losing, he had to keep himself for running out and attacking Beirut and possibly even killing him. As soon as Syria fell, Marauder leaped forward and to her side, arriving there before Beirut did. He promised her that he would get revenge for her death, then left the scene as quickly as he could.
Mar was part of what made Beirut grow distant, he was sure of it; he did his best to make his father not feel welcome. A couple moons later, Mar left the family to go and kill his father, finding him a lot faster than he expected. They fought and eventually Mar brought down Beirut, killing him.
Every so often, Mar would visit his sister, the visits slowing when she left Polter. At one point he planned to see her when she planned to see their brother -- a huge fight ensued, which Marauder lost. Marauder swore to kill Polter one day, then he left and refused to return.
but all that they can see the words revealed
is the only real thing that i've got left to feel
just stuck, hollow and alone
and the fault is my own, and the fault is my own
