Age: 32 moons
Clan: Pineclan
Family:
Greyfur-mother-deceased
Jaywhisker- father- deceased
Sootstorm- sister- alive (played by Claw)
(sibling count subject to change)
Crush/Mate: none
Apprentice: None
Beliefs:
Shrikewhisker doesn't care either way about all this Starclan hullabaloo. He never gave Starclan any thought in Forestclan and he continues to keep that attitude. He's completely and totally agnostic, refusing to acknowledge or deny Starclan. He figures "why should anyone care? We'll find out when we die. Till then, I'm not going to waste any sleep over it." And because of that attitude, he doesn't give a flying flip what others think as long as they don't try to change his mind or get him to talk about it. Since he has nothing really to say, it makes for a dull topic anyway... And he'd rather avoid that conversation, since it's classified as "too serious" in his mind.
But he does stick up for his clanmates. He has a sense of loyalty, even if he's very popular in all the clans. If some cat goes around dissing a Pineclanner, he'll get on their case. No need for that stuff, right? He does have less friends in Fogclan though, since they're definitely more judgemental than the rest of the cats. He kinda views Fogclan as Pineclan's natural enemy anyway. No matter how hard they try, Shrikewhisker doesn't think the peace will be able to stay between the two clans for long. Pineclan is too proud and Fogclan is too aggressive.
Appearance:
Shrikewhisker is a handsome cat and he likes to take advantage of that. Although he's average when it comes to height, he likes to make himself appear taller by sitting up straight at all times with his ears perked and his tail wrapped around his paws. His muscle is evenly distributed so he looks lean and skinny, though he has power hidden away in his rather unimpressive build. It is his fur and his eyes and his expressions, though, that make him quite the she-cat magnet.
His fur is gray and white, and tuxedo in marking. The top of his coat is smooth, neat, and the color of soft shrike feathers. This color coats his legs and tail as well as his back. His belly and a bit of his sides are all white though, and Shrikewhisker is very meticulous in keeping this part of his coat especially clean. All of his paws along with the very tip of his tail are white, and he's very proud of his cute little "socks."
While his head is mostly gray, an arrow of marshmallow white dashes across his forehead, down toward his nose and cheeks, where his long whiskers sprout wildly. His long, quivering whiskers give him a look of attentiveness and curiousness, and Shrikewhisker cleans them whenever he's bored with a conversation.
His eyes are quite exotic. They're mostly a pumpkin orange, though closer to the pupil there is a circle of mossy green. Big and expressive, they smile more than his muzzle does.
Personality:
Shrikewhisker is best known for his likability factor. He's the cat that almost everyone has heard of at least once, the cat whose name is mentioned in conversation casually, the cat who is everybody's "best buddy." And it's no surprise that he is that cat, when he has the looks and the tongue to fool everyone.
Shrikewhisker is a lot of things. It just depends on who you're talking to.
Gifted with wit, Shrikewhisker has always been charismatic and very social. He loves being with cats (the more the merrier) because when he's with cats, he doesn't have to be himself. He can turn on the charm, say a few superficial words, and then he'll be caught up in his own act. It doesn't bother him that he's completely and totally superficial. He knows it and he embraces it. The more fake he is, the happier he gets, and the happier he gets, the more he shines in a crowd of cats. Ask him to be real and he'll totally shut down on you. He's someone who hates being serious, who hates confronting his own problems. He'd rather live in this perfect world that he's created for himself. Because of this trait, he's very manipulative, and uses his words to get what he wants.
He's smooth and funny, cracking jokes to relieve tension or to lighten up someone's day. When around figures of authority, he gets cheeky sometimes, but usually only receives a tail to the face or a hard glare. And though he likes stirring cats up a bit, he really likes seeing them smile more. Especially if their she-cats. He is definitely a ladies man, but he's only notorious for attracting the ladies, not for actually doing anything with them. Because of his close relationship with his sister(s), Shrikewhisker is very respectful of she-cats. In fact, he tends to semi-worship them and is their "knight in shining armor." He views she-cats as very beautiful, noble creatures, gentle, kind, and simple. Males, however, he sees as brutal and judgemental and strong. Around she-cats, he feels...safe. Though he doesn't have a mate, he has plenty of she-cat friends. Often, you can see Shrikewhisker in the nursery, visiting the queens and their kits. He is the most relaxed there. He does get teased about this by some toms...which just causes him to turn on the act again and become "Shrikewhisker the funny" instead of "Shrikewhisker the kind."
So who is he really, if he's always just playing a part? He's a kit. Though a full-grown warrior now, Shrikewhisker has always remained a kit whose mummy died too soon and whose daddy was never there. Yes, he had his siblings, but because he was the biggest and the eldest, he was expected to take care of them, a job he didn't want and wasn't prepared for. And while he was doing that, putting on a brave face, no one was there to take care of him. So even when he's surrounded by all his so-called friends, Shrikewhisker feels utterly and totally alone.
Skills:
Shrikewhisker's skills don't rest in hunting or fighting. Sure, he's a good enough hunter to bring back a vole every time. But he hates hunting since it deals with too much concentration so he rarely goes on any hunting patrol and usually turns down cats who ask him unless he really wants to talk to that certain cat. As for fighting, he's so indifferent about fights and so friendly to everyone that he can't see himself in a fight. Enemies? No way! Therefore, he never practices and could last against an apprentice or inexperienced warrior only. He'd rather just guard the camp or something if his clan has to go to war.
Tracking is the only thing he's naturally good at. His sense of smell is incredible and he can find any cat as long as he tries hard enough. He likes leading border patrols too, since he can see his other friends from other clans if they come snaking up the border the same time as him.
He's really just good at talking. He can calm a group of cats down easily, and he can also get them excited. When dealing with negotiations, he's the cat to send.
History:
The smell was new and strange but Shrikekit liked it. He couldn't explain it much, with his eyes closed, his head buried under the mounds of his mother's fur. He just knew, then, that something had happened and someone knew was here...and like that, Shrikekit thought "Oh a playmate."
Shrikekit was born in Forestclan moons ago, with his siblings by his side for it all. As early as Shrikekit can remember, Sootstorm had been there too. Sometimes, maybe, he'd catch himself dreaming of his kithood and suddenly she would be missing. But it's a fluke right? Of course Sootstorm is his sister!
His kithood, unfortunately, was marked with tragedy. Shrikekit was born without even knowing his father, and the mystery of the warrior made him bug his mother day in and day out. Greyfur wouldn't talk about it though and she got very snappish with Shrikekit when his questions didn't stop. Finally Greyfur left the nursery completely one day, claiming she needed "space from her kits, a little fresh air."
When she came back, she was dragged back. A fox had gotten to her, though a patrol had arrived in time to stop the fox from eating her body entirely. The sight of his mother's dead body was enough to haunt Shrikekit's dreams until he was a warrior. He was four moons when the incident happened.
The rest of his kithood can be summed up with "I'm so sorry about your mother, dear." Warriors often told him that when there wasn't anything else to say, and in return, Shrikekit would remember what the leader told him: "Be strong for you siblings." Then he'd smile and say "Thanks for your concern." Soon, it got too easy to act happy and strong. His siblings were around to distract him and soon the comments faded. When he became an apprentice, the act continued and the play's been running ever since. Shrikekit became popular and even a good apprentice, though he definitely shirked his training in order to be with others. His warrior name came soon enough and life was fine. Life would always be fine, Shrikewhisker told himself, as long as he didn't look back.
In fact, a change of scenery was needed. So of course Shrikewhisker followed his sibs to the new land, to a new clan...and to a new life. ,Maybe in Pineclan he can confront those demons that hold him back?
...Nah. Sometimes, even Shrikewhisker can't fool himself.
