SPECKLEDPAW
Stats:
Now roleplayed by Nightfall
N.a.m.e... Speckledpaw. (dreams of being named 'Speckledclaw' but leader can choose.)
G.e.n.d.e.r... she-cat
A.g.e...9 moons
R.a.n.k... Apprentice
C.l.a.n... Meadowclan
B.e.l.i.e.f.s...
As a Meadowclan cat, Speckledpaw believes in Starclan fiercely and has been convinced by her parents that Starclan hand-picked her to be a leader, if she works hard and is good enough, that is. She is comfortable in this faith and sometimes gets a little bit uncomfortable around Pineclan cats-- usually she can just ignore this feeling though and she rarely has a problem with them.
Skills:
As an apprentice, Speckledpaw is still an amateur at many of the warrior skills she is being taught. She favors fighting over hunting because fighting is her weakness and she wants to get better at it. Hunting is more natural to this young cat, though her impatience causes her to lose prey sometimes. Border patrols are one of her favorite activity as she loves to explore the territory and stretch her legs. Speckledpaw is good at picking out individual scents among a plethora of other smells, and many have mused that she might be leading many border patrols in the future because of that natural talent.
Other weaknesses include: Defense-- she is small and light-weight, making it easy to take advantage of her. She is also too rash and doesn't even give defense the time of day-- she just likes to attack.
Other strengths include: Digging-- like a lot of Meadowclan cats, Speckledpaw is an excellent digger. Her big paws and strong muscles let her dig quite fast and she's quite proficient at making quality burrows.
Appearance:
Speckledpaw is a very interesting cat to look at, though hardly pretty-- I would describe her as bizarre. She is a tortie by blood and because of that, colors smash together noisily throughout her pelt. The dominating color is clearly black. Black fur lays in coarse layers on her back, and the color trails down to her tail and snakes into her front two legs. The black even begins to cover her belly, stopping to make room for a bit of white and ginger.
Black is only the base layer though, and her back is broken up my random bits of ginger fur. The ginger fur shows up spontaneously and sparsely, coming and going as it pleases. The most ginger can be found on her back legs, where there is no black to distract the eye from the lighter color. Ginger fur is also more prominent as you go closer to her head and neck. A large patch of her face-- a patch over her eye-- is ginger, as well as strips by her shoulder.
Finally, Speckledpaw has very small pieces of white on her coat. All four of her paws are white, though the amounts of white on each paw varies-- her front paws have less white than her back ones, but it's white nonetheless. She has a long strip of white on her belly. The most white can be found in tufts on her chest and a sprinkling of white on her chin.
Speckledpaw's face is very round and wide, her muzzle short, her nose small. She has wispy whiskers that extend from her muzzle, and are weighed down by dirt, from digging in the ground so often. Her face is by far the most unique thing about her, as the black fur splits her face down the middle-- ginger on one side, black on the other. Even her nose consists of two colors (black and a pale pink.)
Her eyes are run-of-the-mill olive green, though they are round, large, and merry. They hold all her emotions-- determination, anger, sadness.
Finally, Speckledpaw's build is traditional for a Meadowclan cat. She is skinny, with short, coarse fur hardly doing much for her but covering skin and bone. Her paws are wider, her front legs stronger from all her digger. She is actually smaller then a normal Meadowclan cat, but that is mostly because she is still growing, and will continue to grow for moons to come. Right now, she's a little too skimpy, flabby, and fluffy-- but if her mentor trains her right, Speckledpaw will emerge a powerful Meadowclan warrior that her clan can depend on.
History:
"In order to understand man, we must first understand where man came from. For it is history that shapes our consciousness."
Speckledpaw was already four moons old when the clans came to be. She was born to two rogues-- the female, Petals, and her father, Shiva-- both very strict and steeped in their own traditions. They believed in strength and skill, and they began to raise their kit to be a wonderful fighter and hunter.
When they heard of the clans, both parents were enraptured by the idea and quickly joined, determined to adjust to this new form of life and train their daughter to be the future leader of Meadowclan.
Shiva became Darkfoot and Petals took on the name of Mottledfur, so they could be proper clan cats. They changed their daughter's name from Athena to Speckledkit and plunged into clan life-- but some traditions they couldn't leave behind.
Her kithood was filled with pre-training. When she went chasing after butterflies, Darkfoot would lecture her on doing it wrong and then make her practice her stalk, over and over. If she wanted to play-fight and did not win, Mottledfur was quick to criticize.
"If you want to be worth something, work harder," her mother used to say.
"Meadowclan has no place for weaklings and neither does this family," her father always preached.
And every time Speckledkit failed a certain 'task,' her parents made her know how disappointed they were in her.
Speckledkit grew desperate for her apprentice ceremony. "Once I'm an apprentice," she thought to herself, "I'll get a real mentor and do real training. Then my parents will be so proud of me!" Unfortunately, it didn't come soon enough, not for the impatient Speckledkit. Her mind was corrupted with 'ifs.' If I work harder, If I get stronger, If I am the best... and she soon became critical of every move she made, just like her parents were.
Her parents were unaware of just how cruel they were being. They only wanted the best for her. It didn't occur to Mottledfur and Darkfoot that neglecting to tell Speckledkit that they loved her, or to mention all the things she was doing right that it might help more, in the long run.
Finally, her apprentice ceremony came. And finally, Speckledkit became Speckledpaw, and she was determined to become the best warrior ever, even if it killed her.
Personality:
Now that you have looked at her history, you will better understand why Speckledpaw is who she is.
Speckledpaw is a very critical cat, who judges and judges herself and sees everyone around her as flawless. She's very much like an starving anorexic who looks in the mirror and says "I'm fat." Her views of herself have been twisted-- and are still being twisted, as her parents aren't dead-- by Mottledfur and Darkfoot. Speckledpaw is excellent at finding little things that are wrong and then expanding them into bigger problems. If she were to talk about it with someone, there is no doubt she would be seen as genuinely crazy.
Speckledpaw also seems to make up flaws and set new standards for herself. Her vocabulary is riddled with 'if' and 'then.' If one of her standards fails, she is certain it is because she wasn't good enough to achieve it, and so she works even harder. They get very specific-- and example of one would be the following:
"If I catch this rabbit, then I get to eat one mouse when I get back to camp. If I miss this rabbit, then I get nothing for the rest of the day."
These standards and bargains with herself help 'motivate her' and her father was the one who first started instilling them in her brain. If she manages to succeed with one of her bargains, Speckledpaw will simply up it-- think 'double or nothing.' It's addictive, much like gambling is to humans, though Speckledpaw is blind to the fact that it's a problem.
But, on the bright side, Speckledpaw is very optimistic. (Ha ha, bright side... optimistic. See what I did there? -bricked-) She always remains hopeful and bounces right back up whenever she fails. Sometimes she has very bad nights when she feels like a complete pathetic loser, but once the sun rises, she just "sucks it up and moves on."
She often tries to make others see the brighter side too, and is outgoing and cheerful around others. She's hardly ever serious when around friends. It's actually the only time where she is completely relaxed. But it never lasts long, as her parents usually pull her aside and then force her on a patrol. Work first, play later, is their policy. Speckledpaw is still a kit in that aspect-- she still listens to her parents attentively. She craves their approval and will do anything to get it.
Speckledpaw is definitely a feminist. She hates flirting and being cute and wants to be tough and strong. She hates her name because of that, as she used to get many comments about how cute it all was. She stands up for her 'rights' and is awkward around kits. As far as she's concerned, she's not having any.
For Speckledpaw is heading straight for the leader's den! No stops along the way. Her parents make sure that happens and chastise her greatly if she is seen talking to a tom. Toms could 'distract' her from her 'destiny.' Speckledpaw resents them for that-- she likes talking to toms more than she-cats, as toms usually have the same goals and tastes as she does. She's an utter tomboy.
She's loud and objective, never missing a chance to voice her opinion. She's proud, brave, stubborn-- brave to the point of foolishness, stubborn to the point of disrespect. She'll never accept help from anyone but her mentor. She is a bit of a rebel, at times, when she grows bold and decides to disobey her parents. These streaks are rare but they're usually filled with adventure.
Gatherings are her favorite time of a moon because she can sneak away from her parents and just relax.
In conclusion, Speckledpaw is a fierce perfectionist, forcing herself to work herself to death, somethings skipping meals or sneaking out at night to practice. This affects her health but she ignores her colds or fevers. She's obsessed with earning the approval of her parents and rarely has a moment to herself.
