Long before a flame colored kitty-pet named Rusty ventured into the forest, ages before ThunderClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, and RiverClan were formed . . .
All was chaos.
The sun was brutally hot, and the night was brutally cold and empty . . .
The law of the land was take . . . and take everything. War reigned supreme, brother against sister, father against son, nothing mattered except survival, and none survived while others did.
But then, a great beast, both lion and tiger, with lights in his fur, descended from the sky and cursed the warring cats as vile and useless. The voice commanded the retreat of the different species, and the forming of the Clans. The bravest one of each Clan was gifted Leadership and nine lives. The wisest were given dreams in which they padded beside Moon (as the mysterious being was named). As the generations that passed tread the Warrior's Path, Moon grew restless, allowing the former warriors' spirits to give council in his stead as he prowled.
One night, just as two border patrols were about to set into fighting in the darkness, a bright light shot into the sky. The startled Clans moved together, no longer caring whether the fur brushing theirs was striped or tawny. Moon was walking the sky. As he climbed, Moon shook his mane and the souls of departed ancestors fell free, scattering across the sky to claim their places as the guardians of the night, the stars.
Moon opened his maw wide, letting out a roar that ripped a hole into the sky. He stepped through the hole as it shrank, but he turned around and fixed his bright gaze through the hole, shining more brightly than all the stars.
The last words Moon spoke were these:
"I will always gaze at your paths and light the darkness you walk, but, alas, my heart is a restless one, and should I wander from my place, never fear, for I am not far, and I will always return."
