Okay, so, Rolo posted something today about maybe some people starting up interesting discussions on the general chat that everyone could reply to, and I was already debating bringing this up, so I figured I'd just throw it out there. I have a history project that I have to do about global interactions, and it's all long and complicated--but we can interview people that live in other countries or have lived in other countries, and as I was listing some people I could interview in my head, I realized "Oh my God, what about FoF and all those people?" So, I've decided that I would like to do a mass web thing showing how globally conscious life these days makes us, and because I would love to do a good portion on fandom and internet communities, I need some help.
Who here doesn't live in/hasn't always lived in the US? And, well... discuss? I personally think it would be an interesting conversation, learning about where everyone's from and how many different cultures we are exposed to on a daily basis.

I've lived in America for more than two-thirds of my life, but I live in Korea now. I can help, I guess. =3 Ohwait - Puddy and Topaz can tell you a bit more than I can, though, because they've lived here longer and know nearly everything about Korean culture and what not... c:

"Me is in from Korea~!Maybe I can help? :3" Holy crap yes~! I have a Korean friend here who's an immigrant, and if Thistle moved there recently and Topaz has been there...how long have you been there? But anyways, I could get a ton of perspectives on it...and it would be awesome! In all honesty, Thistle, you could be just as helpful to me as Topaz or Puddy because although the culture piece is fawsome, much of the project is just perspectives. (and then another portion of it is just numbers xD ) Yay~!
....so, could I, like, start interviewing y'all now? You don't have to be super composed and thoughtful about if, just be warned that I'm pretty sure I need to quote y'all, so not swearing/not speaking in lolspeak-chatspeak-litspeak/not decorating your post with smilies and stuff like I did would be preferable. I think it would be best if I conducted the interviews here, as then people could cross-reference opinions and discuss and whatever.
Rolo- Surprisingly, I don't have anyone from England yet. Other than you, that is. Your help would be adored~! *ditto above paragraphs*

Okay, I may no longer speak using the expressions and manners I would like to, but I would like to not that if I could I would be hugging you to death. Thank you ever so much. A quick disclaimer on the questions-please do not feel any obligation to answer any questions you are uncomfortable answering. I would, however, rather that you tell me you are uncomfortable with the line of question so that I know you did not merely forget.
I'll begin with background, I suppose. ((I will ask a few questions about things I already know just so I can get you on record saying it, sorry for being repetitive.)) What nationality and ethnicity are you? (your race, your citizenship, your parents citizenship, your birthplace, your parent's birthplace, ect) Where do you live, and how long have you lived there? (if you could be more specific than just "Korea" that would be preferable, though anything more specific than North or South and perhaps a general city area is unnecessary) Other than the United States of America, have you lived anywhere but Korea? How about your parents? When you first moved to Korea, did you speak Korean? Did you have any relatives or friends in Korea? How did you come to live in Korea? (a.k.a why did you move, how did you get a green card, ect)
Culture and follow-up questions next. (Thistle-if you want to, you can answer the above questions)

Okay, Rolo! Thank you ever so much.
Where do you live? Have you lived there your whole life? Were both your parents born there? Have you ever traveled to the United States? Do you know many Americans? If you are a non-American (I believe you are), what is your opinion on us and how do you see our opinion on you? How aware are you and your society of American culture and actions? Do you think Americans are adequately informed about your society? If you've been exposed to a lot of American culture, what is your general reaction to it, and how does its perspective differ from that of your culture? Sorry for the lame questions, Rolo, I'm a bit at a loss as to how to address you-as you are the first person I've interviewed that has never lived in America. If you have anything you think would be interesting to add, please do so. Also, I apologize for the United-States-centric questions, but as that is the focus of the project and the audience I am presenting to, it is necessary.

Where do you live? South east England Have you lived there your whole life? Indeed I have. Were both your parents born there? Both were. Have you ever traveled to the United States? I visited Florida for 2 weeks when I was 10, and 2 years ago I went for a holiday to New York with school (I also travelled across from Canada to America during that trip) Do you know many Americans? A few, but I've only ever talked to them If you are a non-American, what is your opinion on us? I don't judge people by the cultures they are in. Generally, though, I do like Americans. How do you see our opinion on you? I'm not sure... I do believe that alot of Americans have a very stereotypical view on how the British behave. Some don't seem to understand that, much like your country and it's states, our culture varies from place to place and we're not all 'high-class' citizens that speak with those 'posh' accents in American films. How aware are you and your society of American culture and actions? Very aware. Since America is a world superpower, it gains alot of our media coverage. We followed your recent election and had news programmes on how each candidate would effect our own country. We also get a VERY large amount of programe exports from America, and practically all films are American, so we do get a large insight into your country. Everyone knows who the president is, and sometimes they discuss their actions just as much as we do with our own Prime Minister. Even the term '____ is popular in America' has been coined, since if America loves something... someone's probably getting very rich and it's something to watch out for in Britain. Alot of English stars go to America to further their careers, as it's rare that something here is popular when it isn't in America. There's also a fear that England is becoming 'Americanised' as so much of our TV and media is focused on American actions, and slowly our culture seems to be getting more like America's. Do you think Americans are adequately informed about your society? I don't think they neccessarily have to be informed about us, alot of what I learn about America has been learnt gradually and is a result of amount of American TV shows and films that are shown here. However, it would be nice if they didn't stereotype us so much. If you've been exposed to a lot of American culture, what is your general reaction to it, and how does its perspective differ from that of your culture? I admire American's patriotic stance on their country. In England, there just isn't that culture at all... and I was utterly shocked when I found out Americans declared loyalty to their country XD However, here there seems to be a kind of aversion to alot of your culture, especially when it comes down to eating habits (the 'junk food' and 'convenience' phenomena has its roots in your country and it's slowly transforming Britain too) and I share that opinion. Your 'over-the-top' kind of drama on the tv (lots of your programmes are exported here) is also contravercial, as our humour and drama tends to be very refined (if you want a fantastic example of what I mean, see if you can find a british and american version of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare. The differences between the two programmes are humungous, and Ramsey's personality seems incredibly hyped up in the American version) so I'm not so fond of that either. However, I think your culture is fastinating and very different to my own.
